7 Steps to Build Your Cope with Change Muscles
Personal growth is the most exciting thing about being human, and the constant search for ways to grow will always lead to new ideas. Mind you, thoughts lead to change, and change is not comfortable.
It can be annoying as things you are so familiar and comfortable with getting swept aside and new strategies come. It's not just building new "muscles"; it's restructuring old strengths in new ways.
In today’s society, it seems that change happens more often than many of us can cope with because of the ease of doing many things. Some of us ignore several changes, but many demands that you get familiar with quickly or be lost and unable to function at all, let alone more effectively.
So, what do you do to cope? How do you respond effectively or even creatively?
So, what do you do to cope? How do you respond effectively or even creatively?
Here are seven steps to strengthen your capacity to cope with change:
- Look into the changes you need to deal with and filter them. Yes, there’s a lot of garbage out there that you don’t need. Ignore the noise. Delete. But look carefully so “delete” isn’t just fear of change. Keep the important ones in your folder. Place this folder on your work table and take a break every day for 5 minutes to review, think of strategies, and add new change needs.
- Now check your ranking of the changes. Which ones are crucial? Stop dithering around your desk. Choose the changes that are most important and necessary.
- Under each of these changes, write down actions to take.
- Assess the actions that need to take, when taken, which can bring about the most change and are possible given your circumstances.
- Take the top 5 and start acting on these that day. No procrastination. Just do it. Take action that will push these five steps. Assess your results.
- Celebrate your success and update the folder for the next day.
- Minor changes each day lead to step-by-step major re-works.
Once this becomes a routine, you’ll find yourself getting more productive, less harassed and able to make better decisions. You also become more self-aware and conscious of how you can build day by day to a new level of success. You will become a change “powerlifter”!
