Behind the Green CurtainGreen Tangerine in Hanoi
48 Hàng Bè, Hàng Bạc, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam +84 4 3825 1286 Most of us are from modern cities that have reasonably consistent facade of sidewalk to second floor storefront in glass and the shiny sterility. But come to the old world and I don’t mean the short life span of European cities that have been destroyed and rebuilt a hundred times. The old world of Asia where cities are squeezed and pressed over time and pinched in some corners but they survive for millennia and the nooks and crannies become more common than the wide city streets.
Some Asian cities very nearly destroyed their nook and cranny history to become poor imitations of New York but others like Hanoi have quietly distilled the fabulous variety that crooked walkways and splintered history have created for them. The Green Tangerine restaurant in Hanoi is perhaps the best example I have ever seen of how broken and shattered space can be reassembled almost like a jigsaw into a miraculous picture to give magic to the eye and finally genii to the tongue. Come inside and visit with me.
